This course is presented by Ian Freemantle of Aerovision, who has many years of experience in RPAS and their use in the field of aerial mapping and surveying.
Students will be introduced to the various RPAS mapping platforms and cameras/sensors available on the market, the pros and cons of each, together with a basic understanding of their functionality. The course will include an in depth look at the workflow required for successful data capturing, including mission planning and flight planning. Students will also be taken through the basics of photogrammetry to achieve accurate orthomosaics and digital elevation models from aerial data. Finally, students will get an opportunity to experience a practical mission for the collection of aerial data.
RPAS (or drones) are a disruptive technology in the field of geomatics. As the technology improves it will become an essential tool for the professional surveyor or anyone interested in geospatial data. This course is aimed at providing these professionals with essential knowledge required to make informed decisions regarding equipment and basic workflow to obtain and process accurate and reliable aerial data.

"The flying was fun but I didn’t expect to learn about all the laws that must be followed. I definitely feel that I’m a safer hobbyist now."
